Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s April school-holiday programs give children a chance to show off their creativity.

Guided by a team of professional artists, musicians, dancers, and actors, the one-day Art and Action program is an action-packed visual and performing arts explosion of creative joy.

Everyone will start the day playing theatre sports and other drama games before breaking into smaller classes based on age.

During the art class participants will be introduced to fun materials such as fabric, paint, and collage to create amazing artworks that are theirs to keep at the end of the day!

Fresh Funk dance tutors will introduce young ones to Hip Hop dance, giving participants the opportunity to learn a dance routine and have fun exploring this popular style of dance.

After lunch, musicians Katie & Jess Cole will lead a high-energy music making session where everyone will get together to sing and play pops songs on uke, trumpet and percussion.

The daily program will run like this:

  • 9:30am – 10:45am – Drama – EVERYONE
  • 10:45am – 11:00am – Recess
  • 11am – 12:15pm – Art workshop (9-12yrs) / Street-funk dance (6-8yrs)

Also, running during the school holidays at TAC.

Hip Hop artist Daniel Kirkland is running a songwriting workshop on Tuesday 16 April, thanks to an ongoing collaboration with the ANU Community Music Centre.

In this session, students will be guided through the creative process of songwriting, from the initial spark of an idea to a fully written, cohesive song. Throughout the day, students will write a song as a group, guided by Daniel, they will leave with a completed written copy of the song.

They will be shown the tools employed to form inspiring, compelling, and emotive stories in the process of songwriting. The Songwriting: A Creative Process with Daniel Kirkland is a great way for the kids to show off their own voice. And it’s free!
